Julian Milford Making His Mark as a British Pianist

From his 2002 co-founding of the London Conchord Ensemble to the recent release of recorded scores he composed, Julian Milford has established himself in the classical music world. Julian Milford along with the other musicians who make up the Ensemble have performed in venues such as Amsterdam’s Concertebouw, London’s Wigmore Hall, the Library of Congress in the U.S., and Brussels’ Palais des Beaux Arts.

The London Conchord Ensemble and pianist Julian Milford have supplied listeners with a large selection of recordings including Benjamin Britten Song Cycles; French chamber music with pieces by DuruflĂ© and Loeffler; Francis Poulenc’s Complete Chamber Music; and George Crumb’s “The Voice of the Whale” with Thomas Carroll on cello and Daniel Pailthorpe on flute, to name a few.
“St Petersburg”, recorded by the Ensemble on the Orchid Classics label, received the distinction of ‘CD of the Week’ from London’s Daily Telegraph. The Russian chamber music collection was also dubbed by The Observer as “highly entertaining.”

“Paris”, a CD collection of piano and violin music with violinist Maya Koch accompanying pianist Julian Milford was also met with critical acclaim. Strad Magazine, speaking on the duo’s renditions was quoted as saying, “sumptuously engineered and glowingly played... this recording simply oozes class.”

The first solo recording released by Julian Milford with the Chandos label was described by BBC Music Magazine as “impeccably stylish”.

The group continues to be recognised within the classical music world with Julian Milford as pianist. The 2013 season sees them performing chamber music as part of the BBC Proms Chamber Music Series inLondon’s Cadogan Hall.
